This week is Public Health Week (NPHW) 2013, an annual observance to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the public’s health.
American Public Health Association (APHA) released a video yesterday that shows how investments in public health and prevention programs can save lives and reduce healthcare costs.
In a statement, Georges Benjamin, MD, executive director of APHA, said [1]:
Public health is vital to our well-being, from the food we eat to the air we breathe, from our personal health to the effectiveness of our nation’s health system. We hope this new video will help educate policy makers and the public about the important role public health plays in our lives every day and the significant value it delivers in saving lives, saving costs and improving quality of life over the long term.
The APHA video explains the real return on investment from public health efforts. You can watch it below.
This year’s NPHW theme is Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money.
